A yellow weather warning for heavy fog has been issued by the Met Office today (February 8). The warning covers a large part of the UK, including Cambridgeshire.

The forecaster says there is a chance that fog patches will cause difficult driving conditions and heavy travel disruption throughout the day. Slower journey times with delays or cancellations to flights, bus and train services are also possible.

The warning is in place from 3am today and is scheduled to last until around 11am. Many areas of the county will be affected, including Cambridge, Peterborough, Ely, Wisbech, Huntingdon, St Ives and St Neots among others.

Met Office's forecast said: "Patches of freezing fog are likely to become more widespread towards dawn on Wednesday, particularly along river valleys and across eastern and southern England, with the visibility as low as 50 to 100 metres in a few places. Fog will slowly thin and clear later on Wednesday morning."

No other weather warnings are scheduled for the rest of the week, although it is expected to be overcast across Cambridgeshire heading into the weekend. Cloudy spells and freezing fog patches, combined with light rain, are predicted later in the week.

A number of tips have been issued by the forecaster on how to stay safe while travelling in fog, including driving very slowly and avoiding travel if possible. For more information and details, you can visit the website here.
