Roads in Huntingdon that haven't been resurfaced for many years are set to undergo improvements over the next two months, closing multiple routes. Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) has said that the first phase of a £537,000 scheme is due to take place between February 13 and February 20 on the B1514 Main Street and Longstaff Way in Hartford.

Local councillor, Alex Beckett, has said the road closures may be an "inconvenience" to some residents but that the works will make a "big difference" to the quality of the roads. The works will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am, including over the weekend.

The B1514 will be closed between the A141 and Huntingdon ring road during these times. The second phase will focus on Huntingdon ring road and is due to start on Monday, March 6 and March 15.

During this period Huntingdon ring road will be closed from 9pm to 6am, between the junction of George Street and Hartford Road. Residents will still be able to access their properties if they live within the boundaries of the roadworks but there may need to be escorted by a traffic management vehicle.

Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Highways and Transport Committee, Cllr Alex Beckett, said: “I appreciate these closures may cause some inconvenience, but we are confident these works will make a big difference to those who use them and improve the quality of the roads. I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

"Our highways team will work hard to complete the upgrades as quickly as possible so we can re-open the roads.”
