Sander Eitrem claims World Cup gold with track record win at World Cup in Tomaszow Mazowieki

There was joint success for Norway as Ragne Wiklung claimed gold in the women's 1500m. Norwegian Eitrem finished in a time of 6:15.06 to win gold and break the previous record held by Nils van der Poel. It proved to be a fairly comfortable win for Eitrem, who finished 6.57 seconds ahead of Dutchman Beau Snellink. Belgian Bart Swings completed the podium with bronze.

Sander Eitrem set a new track record to claim gold in the men's 5000m event at the speed skating World Cup in Tomaszow Mazowieki, Poland.
Norwegian Eitrem finished in a time of 6:15.06 to win gold and break the previous record held by Nils van der Poel.
It proved to be a fairly comfortable win for Eitrem, who finished 6.57 seconds ahead of Dutchman Beau Snellink.
Belgian Bart Swings completed the podium with bronze, finishing almost three seconds ahead of fourth placed Sigurd Henriksen.
There was further success for Norway earlier in the day when Ragne Wiklund topped the podium in the women's 1500m, narrowly defeating Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong by 0.94 seconds, while Japanese Miho Takagi took bronze to remain top of the standings.
Her countryman Yuma Murakami claimed gold in the men's 500m, closing the gap to Canada's Laurent Dubreuil who finished ninth.
American Jordan Stolz took the silver medal, but there was US victory in the women's team sprint, as Erin Jackson, McKenzie Brown and Kimi Goetz combined for their second consecutive gold to take top spot in the standings.
