Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle set sights on 14-assist star

Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle are keen on Salford City’s midfield star Elliot Watt, as per Football League World.

Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle have been battling all season in the race for automatic promotion to the Championship.

With 10 games left, only two points separate the two sides. The Pilgrims are sat in 2nd place as it stands, but the Tractor Boys have been closing the gap over recent weeks after embarking on a five-game winning streak.

Now though, it has been claimed they could be set to do battle in the transfer market this summer too.

Football League World claims both Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle are in Salford City midfielder Elliot Watt, who has been a standout performer in League Two once again. The former Wolves talent has been central to the Ammies’ promotion push, providing an impressive 14 assists in 33 league games.

They add that there is also Scottish Premiership interest in Watt, who sees his Salford deal expire in 2024.

Who is this?

Ready for a step up?

Of course, it remains to be seen just what division Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle find themselves in next season. However, regardless of them being in the Championship or League One, you’d argue Watt is capable of making the step up to either league.

The 23-year-old is a serious creative force in midfield and after impressing in a previous spell with Bradford City, he’s shown he deserves a move out of League Two. At his age, the Preston-born midfielder has plenty of time to maximise his potential, and a summer move could give him the perfect chance to prove what he’s capable of at a higher level.

Plenty of time remains before the summer window though, and with Salford sure to be keen to hold onto one of their best players, it awaits to be seen how the situation pans out.
