Liam Mckenna-May looks ahead to Colchester United’s next league match against Tranmere Rovers.

Colchester United currently sit 21st in League Two. On a winless run, the U’s are looking for a performance to turn this around. Next up, Tranmere Rovers. Can the U’s find a victory, or will the away side come away with it?

Well, Colchester United are without a win in their last six league matches which has dropped them back down the table to 21st, five points from safety. After a blistering start to the year, the U’s find this as a must win game to be able to keep a distance from relegation.

However, in their last five games the U’s have lost four and drawn one, which was surprisingly against the top of the league side, Leyton Orient. United staged an incredible comeback scoring two late goals through Connor Hall and Noah Chilvers to score their first league goals in 450 game minutes.

With a win, Colchester could move to 20th above Harrogate Town, who do not play until the 31st of March. As well as this they could move to eight points clear of relegation, but this is dependent on the result of the game between Hartlepool and Leyton Orient.

Although Colchester United haven’t won in six, the games have been very slender 1-0 defeats for the most part. As a Colchester United fan, you can only hope that the luck is with them. A plus side to playing Tranmere at home is that they have lost ten away games in all competitions, with most coming in the recent weeks.

One thing that might influence this game is the lack of goals by both sides, especially the U’s. The U’s have only scored two in their last five with both being in their previous game versus Leyton Orient which might be a sign of improvement for the U’s. Tranmere have scored four in five but two were from the penalty spot through Josh Hawkes.

There are threats from the attack of both teams. For Colchester United, Noah Chilvers is a threat they will wish to utilise as the goal scoring midfielder is the club’s top goal scorer this season. For Tranmere, they will be relying on their top goal scorer Kane Hemmings who has scored nine this season for the Rovers.

It is clear to see Tranmere are in better form, I wouldn’t put it past the U’s to take the game to Tranmere. Between the roaring support of the fans and the quality of the players at the club, I think this will be a good game to watch.

In my opinion, it looks to be an enthralling game with both sides having their qualities. Due to the lack of goalscoring from both teams I feel this game will end up being a low scoring draw, but one that will entertain...
