COLCHESTER United currently lie five points above the relegation zone, in Sky Bet League Two.

Ben Garner’s side are looking to climb further away from danger with eight games of the season remaining, having failed to win any of their last seven matches.

However, they have picked up a point in their last two fixtures, after battling back from losing positions against both Tranmere Rovers and Leyton Orient.

And Colchester supporters might be encouraged to hear that they will avoid dropping out of the Football League, if a supercomputer prediction is anything to go by.

Gazette:

The FiveThirtyEight website has predicted that the U's will finish in 21st place - two places above the relegation zone.

The supercomputer has calculated that Colchester only have a six per cent chance of being relegated, this season.

It forecasts that the U's will accumulate 47 points, which according to their calculations will be enough to keep them up.

They are currently on 37 points, meaning they need a further ten points - the equivalent of three wins and a draw - from their final eight games to avoid the drop, if the supercomputer is anything to go by.

It predicts that Rochdale (98 per cent) will finish bottom, with Hartlepool United (80 per cent) the other team to drop down into the Vanarama National League.

Crawley Town (12 per cent) are predicted to finish third from bottom, just below Colchester.

At the other end, the table predicts that league leaders Leyton Orient will be champions of League Two, with a 67 per cent chance of winning the title.

Northampton Town, who are currently in third spot, are placed second in the supercomputer table (14 per cent), with Stevenage third (11 per cent).
