Ronan O’Gara clearly can’t get enough of his coaching role with La Rochelle. The legendary Ireland back provided the heartwarming moment of last weekend, as he taught a touchline ball-boy correct tackle technique, during La Rochelle’s Top 14 match against Bordeaux Begles.
O’Gara is seen coaching the ball boy on how to wrap his arms in the tackle, and instructs the young lad to get low when making a hit. The former fly half is considered to be one of the greatest to ever play the game, and this is certainly one lesson that the Bordeaux ball boy will never forget.
La Rochelle’s Head Coach arrived in South-Western France in 2019, after having previously coached Top 14 rivals Racing 92, and the Crusaders in Super Rugby. O’Gara took ‘Stade Rochelais’ to their first ever Champions Cup Final in 2021, after a semi-final victory over reigning champions Exeter Chiefs.
La Rochelle were subsequently beaten by Toulouse, as France fly half Romain Ntamack kicked his side to a 22-17 victory. O’Gara is heading to the West Country tomorrow, as his side take on Gloucester in the Champions Cup Round of 16. La Rochelle are considered favourites heading into the clash at Kingsholm Stadium, as they sit at 2nd in the Top 14, with ambitions of a European and domestic league double.
