Referee Sam Grove-White gave Sharks flanker Dylan Richardson a stern talking too, as the back-rower was told off for appealing for a high tackle. Grove-White firmly told Richardson; “don’t shout at me.”
The incident took place after Ulster’s Duane Vermeulen’s tackle on Sharks’ prop Hanru Jacobs. The collision was higher than a definitely legal tackle, which prompted an outburst from Richardson. The short video clip has since gone viral, racking up over 300,000 views across TikTok and YouTube.
“Listen to me. I’ve got a deliberate knock on but you can’t shout at me like that.”
The 30-year-old referee’s instructions were clear, and got the rugby fanbase talking about his excellent control of the game. Rugby is a game built upon respect, with the referee’s at the heart of the action.
You can hear Richardson apologising at the end of the video, as he wants to avoid a trip to the sin bin. “Sorry, I was just…. sorry, I’m sorry ref”.
