Despite having a market valuation of €60m and featuring for Brazil in the last World Cup, Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães stayed out of the squad in the last international break.

With caretaker manager Ramon Menezes taking charge, the Magpies’ midfielder was not called up for the friendly against Morocco, with the new coach going for other alternatives for teh position.

As Bruno Guimarães was this week interviewed by ESPN Brasil, the Newcastle was asked about that. And the 25-year-old didn’t hide his frustration for being out of the squad.

“I was hoping to go, I won’t lie,” Bruno Guimarães told ESPN Brasil’s João Castelo-Branco.

“I respect Ramon’s decision, my name in England is that of one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. What moves me here is going to the Brazilian national team, I want to be among the best.”

Bruno Guimarães’ absence at the national team is one more reason for the controversy regarding the call-up of Andrey Santos.

The Newcastle United midfielder stayed out but the 18-year-old, who was signed by Chelsea and couldn’t get a work permit for the Premier League, was called-up.

Big part of the Brazilian media claimed that Ramon Menezes did that to help the youngster to get the visa, as the player was clearly not prepared to be a starter for Brazil at this point in his career.
