Newcastle United may have been handed their chance to sign Marcus Thuram this summer, as the forward has ‘refused an offer’ from Inter Milan.

That’s according to Sport Mediaset, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, who report that the forward has ‘decided to refuse’ the offer he’s received from the Nerazzurri.

Thuram is set to be one of the hottest properties of the summer transfer window as his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach is set to expire in the summer.

He’ll therefore be available on a free in the coming transfer window and clubs are lining up to sign the forward as a result, particularly with him in fine goalscoring form in the Bundesliga this season.

Newcastle United are one of those who have been heavily linked, with numerous reports in the last few months suggesting they want to add him to their forward line.

Indeed, a report earlier this month made it clear that the Magpies were in fact at the front of the queue for his signature with April likely to be the key month.

Their hopes may have now been handed a boost as Sport Mediaset report that Thuram has turned down the offer from Inter, one of Newcastle’s main rivals for his signature.

Why he has decided to do so, or what the nature of Inter’s offer was isn’t mentioned, just that the Frenchman has turned it down for now.

There is plenty of time for that to change, of course, and it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll end up at St James Park, but it is certainly a good thing for Newcastle that one of their main rivals appear to be out of the picture.
