Rooney raised some questionable points

Wayne Rooney has admitted to having a conspiracy theory about Manchester City’s famous 2012 title win.

By now, everyone knows the story of City coming from two goals down to beat Queens Park Rangers in the last seconds, thanks to Sergio Aguero’s goal, to beat Manchester United to the Premier League title for the first time in their history.

But Rooney believes that the build up to the winner was suspicious.

Speaking to The Sun in 2022, he said: “Paddy Kenny should have done better for a couple of the goals.

“City get the second goal and QPR kick it straight back to them and that’s never been questioned – I find that strange.

“Djibril Cisse celebrating after the game with the City players, but yeah listen it’s a historic moment in the Premier League so I’m sure that – if you are not involved as a Manchester United player, that’s probably one of the greatest moments in the league.”

Since going public, a number of people have investigated Rooney’s comments and found that there could be some correlation to it.

Shortly after Edin Džeko’s equaliser, QPR take the kick off and clear the ball straight to the Man City half to allow Joe Hart to recycle the ball to Gaël Clichy and the rest is history.

One person wrote: “Nah someone really has to explain why QPR just boot it to them with 3 mins remaining. How has this never been discussed?”

Another said: “Wazza might have a point yanno. Even if you’re wasting time you’d go back to the keeper first.”

It may well be a case of people clutching at straws (and Rooney still being bitter about missing out on the title) but it’ll never stop people from speculating.
