Boehly has been heavily involved in his first year as Chelsea’s owner
Todd Boehly will cut back his involvement at Chelsea in order to focus on other business interests.
Bloomberg have reported that the American, who has been hands on in the day-to-day running of the Blues in his first year as co-owner, will now spend just 20 per cent of his time running the club.
Boehly stepped down as Chelsea’s interim sporting director in January and always had the long-term vision of scaling back from certain activities once the right appointments were made.
By doing so, the co-owner will now dedicate more of his time to the other businesses in his portfolio, which include the Los Angeles Lakers basketball and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball teams.
Away from football, Boehly is also the co-founder and chief executive officer of Eldridge Industries, an investment firm that backs the owners of the Hollywood Reporter and the Variety magazines.
His first year as co-owner of Chelsea has been chaotic to say the least. The Blues have spent over £600m across the two transfer windows this season but has failed to see an improvement in results on the pitch.
Chelsea have also had four managers this season (Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard) but will finish 12th in the Premier League – their lowest finish since they came 14th in the 1993-1994 campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to take over at the end of the season with multiple reports suggesting that a deal has been agreed for him to take the reigns at Stamford Bridge.
