Details of Toney’s betting charges were released on Monday

Ivan Toney posted a cryptic message to his Instagram story on Friday in light of the Football Association’s recent statement.

The governing body released details of the reason why the forward was banned from all football-related activities for the next month after pleading guilty to over 200 betting charges.

Among those included the FA wanting to give the one-time England international a 15-month ban only to reduce it to eight after Toney had been formally diagnosed with a gambling addiction and that he had pleaded guilty.

Additionally, the 27-year-old betted against his own side 13 times – 11 of those when at Newcastle United and two of those while on loan at Wigan Athletic – but wasn’t part of the match day squads in any of them.

In the wake of the statement, Toney has since posted two responses, one on Twitter that said: “I’ll speak soon with no filter,” before posting a further one to Instagram.

On his story, he said: “I used to rush to defend myself against false accusations but now I watch to see who believes it so I know who to cut off first.”

Brentford released a statement offering their full support to the striker, who won’t be able to return to competitive action until January.

They said that they would “be doing everything possible to provide support to Ivan and his family to deal with the issues raised in this case” and “look forward to welcoming Ivan back to training in September.”
