Twenty nine year old leg spinner Dushan Hemantha of Badureliya SC got the big break debuting for Sri Lanka in the first ODI against Afghanistan at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium today after star leggie Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva was ruled out of the game following a heel impairment he sustained during the recent IPL tournament.
Munasinghe Arachchige Dushan Ishara Hemantha, a product of St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya, came into the reckoning following an impressive match winning performance against the England Loons recently. He has claimed 98 first class wickets from 44 appearances and is a fair batsman as well.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan too were without the services of key spinner Rashid Khan due to a lower back injury.
The 3-match series is important for Sri Lanka in the former world champions build up for this year’s extravaganza more so to get the better of a minnows side that put the Lankans out of automatic world cup qualification when they last met last year.
