After a few days of GC stalemates, the 2023 Tour de France battle between Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar resumed on Friday with the latter pinching seconds atop the Grand Colombier. Saturday sees the riders enter the Alps, with an ascent of the Col de Joux Plane before a dash down into Morzine. Which of the GC big guns will flourish in the high mountains?
The GC battle between Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar has been bubbling along nicely, and with the riders entering the Alps on Saturday we could get a picture of who is the stronger of the two.
Pogacar showed excellent legs to pinch some seconds off Vingegaard atop the Grand Colombier on Friday, but the Alps are more the terrain of the defending champion.
The riders will scale three Cat. 1 climbs (Col de Cou, Col du Feu and Col de la Ramaz) before facing the mighty Col de Joux Plane (11.6km at 8.5%) and then dashing down to Morzine.
Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) starts Stage 14 with a nine-second lead over Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), and it's unlikely to be the same come Saturday evening.
Eurosport's Felix Lowe was a busy man pre-Tour and has plenty to keep you interested before the action gets underway. Head here for his bumper team guide, over this way for his yellow jersey guide and ratings (i.e. Jonas Vingegaard v Tadej Pogacar), or in this direction for his guide to the key stages.
