Tim Henman has snubbed the likes of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz as he tipped a dark horse to win the men’s singles title at the 2023 US Open.

Djokovic and Alcaraz, who contested the Wimbledon final last month, head into Flushing Meadows as the outright favourites.

Spanish world No.1 Alcaraz won the first Grand Slam title of his career in New York last year and is looking to defend his US Open crown.

Djokovic, meanwhile, is seeking revenge after losing the Wimbledon final to Alcaraz and is looking to equal Margaret Court on 24 major singles trophies.

But former British No.1 Henman has tipped world No.6 Jannik Sinner to stun them both and walk away with his first Grand Slam title.

Sinner and Alcaraz enjoyed a blockbuster quarter-final over five sets at last year’s US Open and the Italian had match point but narrowly lost to the Spaniard.

Sinner has only improved since then – reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final at Wimbledon this year – and the 22-year-old claimed a Masters 1000 title earlier this month at the Canadian Open.

Asked to pick his men’s singles winner for the US Open, Henman told Sky Sports: ‘There are players who are going to win their first major eventually.

‘In the men’s singles, I’ll go with Jannik Sinner. I really feel like he is knocking at the door.

‘He won his first Masters 1000 title. Likewise, someone I would love to win [in the women’s singles] is Jessica Pegula. An American playing at home, she is coming up step by step. She’s won big tournaments now. I think they can both win majors.’
