A 32-year-old died Tuesday after driving into a dam in Dallas County.

Jordan West, of Minburn, was found in a submerged vehicle near the Redfield Dam in the Middle Raccoon River, according to a news release from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.

A call came in around 1:38 a.m. from a witness saying they saw a "large amount of vehicle debris on the east side dam." The witness, according to the release, believed the vehicle hit the water.

That same witness told deputies a vehicle in Redfield was driving "at a high rate of speed" before they found the debris, the release said.

A diver and tow company were able to recover the 2012 Hyundai Sonata, which was completely totaled. West's body was inside.

His body was turned over to the medical examiner for an autopsy. According to the release, a preliminary investigation indicates the Sonata hit several large boulders near the dam before reaching the water.

No foul play is suspected at this time and there is no danger to the public, the release said. The case remains ongoing.
