Three years ago, MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket. However, he continues to play an active role in franchise cricket and is poised to captain CSK in the upcoming IPL season. Dhoni, who led India to historic victories in the inaugural T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, remains a prominent figure in the cricketing world. It's worth noting that in 2017, the BCCI officially retired the No. 10 jersey worn by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

NEW DELHI: India's World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni's No. 7 jersey won't be available to any player as the BCCI has decided to retire the iconic jersey number, according to reports.
"The Indian cricket board, in a tribute to his contribution to the sport, has decided to ‘retire’ the number sported by the World Cup-winning captain," said a report in the Indian Express on Friday.

It's been more than three years since MS Dhoni retired from international cricket on 15th August 2020. However, he is still active in franchise cricket and set to lead Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Dhoni captained India to historic title wins in the inaugural T20 World Cup as well as the 2011 ODI World Cup.

In 2017, the BCCI had officially retired the No. 10 jersey worn by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.
The report mentions that the BCCI has intimiated the national team about its decision, that the numbers worn by Dhoni (7) and Tendulkar (10) are no longer available to anyone, including the debutants.
