Co-rapporteurs Andrus Ansip (Renew, Estonia) and Cyrus Engerer (S&D, Malta) will brief journalists following the plenary vote on the green claims directive.

When: Tuesday, 12 March 2024, 14.30 CET

Background

MEPs will debate the draft legislation on Monday and vote on Parliament’s 1st reading position on Tuesday. The draft legislation will complement the recently adopted ban on greenwashing. The new directive on green claims will outline the information that companies should provide to authorities to substantiate their environmental marketing claims. Companies that violate the directive will be penalised, and the new directive will specify the conditions regarding the use of claims that compare several products and clarify the conditions relating to claims about carbon offsetting and removal.
