Woman gives birth on floor of pub bathroom

A woman had to give birth on the floor of a pub bathroom with the help of her husband.

Natalie was meant to be induced on Wednesday but went into labour on Tuesday morning, with Sophia arriving in just 30 minutes.

Dan, who runs the pub in Oxfordshire, was woken up by his wife and had to step in to deliver their first child.

Natalie said he handled it "remarkably" given he "absolutely hates needles", blood, and "anything medical".

Dan was woken up shortly after his wife's waters had broken.

She told him she "couldn't move" and there was "no way" they could go to the hospital.

Natalie managed to make it to the bathroom when the baby's head started to appear.

Dan called 999, put the call handler on speaker and delivered his daughter just before 06:00 GMT.

"The umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck - that was quite scary," he said.

"Nat and baby were still connected so I was trying not to pull too much."

Paramedics later isolated the umbilical cord and he cut it, which he described as "a really proud moment".

Natalie said: "Afterwards he went downstairs, shed a tear and had a glass of wine with one of our customers."

This is the couple's first child together, and she shares the same birthday as Dan's grandmother.

"She was the matriarch of my family and a very important person to me," he said.

"Her name was Edith so we decided to give Sophia the middle name of Edith, and also Dorothy, after Nat's nan."

The parents said Sophia was doing "really good" and "sleeps most of the night".
