Record-seeking Rivers United of Port Harcourt will move to Uyo today to begin the final preparations for their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal clash against champions, USM Alger of Algeria, on Sunday.

Rivers United is seeking to qualify for the semifinals of the CAF competition for the first time and the management of the club “are not leaving any stone unturned” to see that they beat USM Alger.

The club’s Media Officer, Charles Mayuku, told The Guardian yesterday that the club had their last training session in Port Harcourt last night and were set to move to Uyo today.

“We know how important this match is to Nigerians, as we are the country’s only remaining club in the continent; hence we are determined to make Nigerians proud.

“Coach Stanley Eguma supervised the training sessions and have assured us that his boys are in top shape to excel against the champions,” Mayuku said.

Sunday’s match, according to CAF, will kickoff by 2.00 p.m., instead of the earlier advertised 4.00 p.m.

The game will be held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, while the reverse fixture will be played a week later in Algiers.

Rivers United, who were knocked out at the same stage of the competition by Young Africans of Tanzania last year, qualified for the quarterfinal after finishing second in Group C of the competition behind Ghana’s Dreams FC.

Eguma’s side is looking to become the first Nigerian club to win Africa’s second-tier club competition.

Meanwhile, Rivers United’s opponents, USM Alger, are expected to arrive in the country tomorrow. The North Africans, who are expected to arrive aboard a chartered flight, will have their first feel of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium pitch on Saturday.
