Houston Open 2024 Golf Betting Preview, Odds, Picks And Props

Following

The first major of the year is less than two weeks away, and The Masters odds are drawing more interest as the the top golfers practice and prepare for the speed and slopes at Augusta National. But the next two weeks provide another chance for the PGA Tour players to sharpen their game with a pair of tournaments in Texas - where the sports betting industry is up against longer odds to legalize sports betting in the Lone Star State. The Texas Children’s Houston Open offers a purse of $9.1 million and the event drew 10 of the top 50 and 40 of the top 100 players in the world rankings. The winner not otherwise qualified will earn a trip to The Masters April 11-14.

Still, with Dallas native and No. 1 ranked player Scottie Scheffler leading the field in the 2024 Houston Open, there is plenty of intrigue in the event as Scheffler shoots for his third straight victory after winning the $20 million Arnold Palmer Invitational and $25 million Players Championship, where he defeated dozens of top players.

Memorial Park is a Par 70 and plays to 7,425 yards for the 2024 Houston Open. The course hosted the event in November 2022 when Tony Finau (-16) won by four shots. Jason Kokrak (-10) won in 2021, and Scottie Scheffler (-8) finished T2 before surging ahead in 2022 and 2023 and now two more wins in 2024 to to become the games elite player.

The overseed at Memorial Park will provide a much tighter playing surface than the bermudagrass did in 2022. This will highlight the penal green surrounds, while shorter rough gives opportunity for aggressive approach shots to the green. However, Memorial Park’s Par 4’s and Par 5’s are among the longest on Tour, and the Poa annua greens provide less pure putting surfaces.

Scheffler is a Dallas resident and former University of Texas golfer. He’s an overwhelming favorite to win again at +270 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. No other golfer has odds to win below +1000. Wyndham Clark is a leading win contender at +1200 odds, but he’s battling a back injury suffered this week. Something to note when watching and wagering on golf matchups.
