ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team will travel to State College, Pa., for an afternoon tilt against the No. 11-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday (April 13). The contest commences at noon from PSU's Panzer Stadium, and the game will be broadcast on B1G+.

Notes

• The Wolverines (6-5, 1-2 Big Ten) enter the week receiving votes in both the Inside Lacrosse Media and USILA Coaches Poll, and are No. 17 in the NCAA RPI. U-M is tied for third in the conference with Penn State, Rutgers and Ohio State -- all of whom boast a record of 1-2 in league play.

• The Wolverines are led by their attack unit -- that features the trio of senior Michael Boehm (21 goals, 25 assists), junior Ryan Cohen (21g, 24a) and graduate student Justin Tiernan (41g, 3a) -- to form one of the units in the NCAA with 135 points amongst the group. Tiernan continues to lead the country in goals per game (3.77/contest), while Boehm is No. 30 nationally and third in the conference in points per game (4.18).

• Tiernan's 41 goals are four goals away from Boehm's single-season record of 45 (2023). He has registered a hat trick in all but one contest every game as a Wolverine, and has scored at least one goal in 23 straight contests -- the 11th-longest streak in the NCAA.

• With five points (2g, 3a) against Johns Hopkins (March 30), Boehm broke the U-M career record for goals, assists and points. He now boasts 120 goals, 98 assists and 218 points in his storied Wolverine career. The assist mark is two short of becoming the first Wolverine in program history to reach 100 helpers in a career.

• Senior faceoff man Justin Wietfeldt ranks eighth nationally in faceoff win percentage (62.1 percent) and third in the country in ground balls per game (9.09). With 100 ground balls on the season, he is one pickup away from breaking former teammate Nick Rowlett's single-season record of 100 (2021, 2023).

• U-M is No. 15 in the country in scoring offense (13.27 goals/game), No. 8 in assists per game (8.73) and No. 5 in extra-man offense (52 percent) -- as well as No. 12 in points per game (22.00).

• Graduate close defender Cathal Roberts leads the Big Ten and is No. 12 nationally in caused turnovers per contest with 1.91/game. As a team, U-M tops the conference and is No. 14 nationally in caused turnovers per contest with 9.55/game.

• Michigan is 6-1 on the season when scoring first, 5-2 when outshooting an opponent, and 4-1 when having fewer turnovers than the opposition.

• Last season, U-M sat at 1-2 in Big Ten Conference play and fell to 1-3 in league play with a 11-9 loss against the Nittany Lions at U-M Lacrosse Stadium (April 16, 2023). From there, U-M defeated Ohio State on April 21 to move to 2-3 in Big Ten play before going on a four-game winning streak eventually falling to No. 1 Duke in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.

• The Nittany Lions lead the series, 10-3, but U-M won the most recent matchup last season in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals by a 17-15 score after dropping an 11-9 contest on April 16 in Ann Arbor. In the Big Ten semifinal, Boehm ripped off three goals and a trio of assists, while ten Wolverines scored at least one goal to advance to the first Big Ten Championship game in program history. Each of the last five contests against PSU has been two-goal affairs and featured two overtime contests during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
