Louisville won the opening game in Coral Gables on Friday.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Louisville baseball team turned in a 9-5 victory in the series opener at Miami on Friday night.

Louisville (22-15, 8-8 ACC) moved back to .500 in ACC play with the win.

Zion Rose led the charge for the Cardinals on Friday, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and scoring two runs. Dylan Hoy added three hits, including his third home run of the season, while Alex Alicea drove in three and Gavin Kilen hit his sixth homer of the year.

The Cardinals got on the board in the first inning, cashing in an error on the opening play of the game with a RBI groundout from Isaac Humphrey.

Miami (16-21, 6-13) tied the game with a two-out RBI single in the second and the game remained tied at one through three.

In the fourth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with two outs for Alicea. The freshman battled and sent the 11th pitch of the at-bat to the wall in right field to drive all three runners home.

The Hurricanes fought back though, scoring twice in the fifth and once more in the sixth to knot the game up at four apiece.

However, Louisville grabbed the lead right back. Rose stepped to the plate with runners on the corners and delivered his fourth hit of the night to drive in JT Benson and a misplay in right field allowed Hoy to score all the way from first.

Humphrey added his second RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly that drove in Rose and Kilen followed with a solo shot to left-center.

Hoy then capped off a strong night with his solo homer to right in the ninth.

Sebastian Gongora received a no-decision on the night after allowing four runs (three earned) in five innings of work. Kayden Campbell (2-1) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory. Tucker Biven took care of the final four outs for his fourth save.

Louisville and Miami play game two of the series on Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
