For the first time since winning the College Football Playoff, the Michigan football team will take the field this Saturday.
The reigning national champions will play their spring game at noon on Saturday.
Many of the notable faces from last year's domineering team have moved on, leaving a markedly different Wolverines team in their wake. Most notably, Jim Harbaugh is now the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, with Sherrone Moore, who guided Michigan to four wins amid Harbaugh's suspensions last season, taking the permanent reins.
On the field, a record-breaking 18 Michigan players participated at the NFL Combine with their sights set on the NFL Draft. The list includes starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy, stalwart running back Blake Corum and do-it-all defensive back Mike Sainristil.
And while there are certainly holes to fill, there remains plenty of talent on the roster of the three-time defending Big Ten champions. Donovan Edwards, who scored a pair of thrilling touchdowns in the National Championship Game, stands to be the featured running back. Junior defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham will be the focal points of a staunch defense.
The most intriguing question lies under center: Who will replace McCarthy? Sophomore Alex Orji, incoming freshman Jadyn Davis and veteran Jack Tuttle are three candidates as the quarterback competition heats up.
