EMass girls’ softball: Aces for North Andover! Brigid Gaffny headlines Players of the Week

Aniyah Bailey, Taunton — The freshman catcher put on a show in two Hockomock League wins. She singled in the winning run for a 4-3 eighth-inning victory over Westfield in 3-for-4 day Wednesday. On Monday, Bailey blasted two homers and notched seven RBIs against Attleboro in a 15-3 win.

Kelsey Blanchette, Lincoln-Sudbury — Committed to UMass Amherst, she was difference in Wednesday’s nailbiter 2-1 win over Silver Lake, hurling 13 strikeouts and walking six in eight no-hit innings, as well as grabbing the winning run.

Brigid Gaffny, North Andover — The Bates-bound senior had quite a week. Six strikeouts, two earned runs, and three walks against Methuen (in a 9-2 win); 11 strikeouts and one earned run over Haverhill (5-2 win); 13Ks and two of her own hits (including an RBI) against Pentucket (5-2 win); six strikeouts, three runs, and four earned runs against Tewksbury (5-4 win); and 12Ks and a two-run homer over crosstown rival Andover (12-2 win).

Ali Gill, King Philip — On Wednesday, the sophomore tripled and scored once in a 7-2 win over Rhode Island power Cumberland (7-2). Later in the week, she clubbed four homers and nine RBIs in wins against Bridgewater-Raynham (12-1) and Milford (15-0).

Kathleen Simmons, Arlington Catholic — In an 11-2 win over Medford Tuesday, the senior captain went 4 for 4, recording four RBIs. Three days later, against Concord-Carlisle (6-4), she put on a 3-for-4 performance that was punctuated by knocking in the winning run.

Elsie Testa, Abington — The sophomore ace fanned her 100th career batter in a 16-3 victory over Whitman-Hanson Thursday. On Monday, she added 13Ks to her total and contributed a pair of RBIs in the Green Wave’s 12-3 victory over Cohasset.
