PUBG: Battlegrounds is getting nostalgic! The game that started the battle royale craze is bringing back its original map, Erangel, for a two-week run in May and June.
The old map fused with new mechanics will keep the game interesting.
Erangel Classic aims to recreate the early days of PUBG. Expect the original map layout, graphics, atmosphere, and even the user interface. But don’t worry, veterans – Krafton (who bought PUBG) promises “modern tweaks” to keep gameplay smooth. Think of it like a classic game remake – capturing the original feel with some quality-of-life improvements.
This trip down memory lane is likely inspired by Fortnite’s successful return of its original map last year. Erangel Classic will double down on nostalgia with foggy weather, bench weapons on the starting island (get ready to fight for loot!), and lower weapon recoil mimicking the original experience. You’ll even find the Tommy Gun back in care packages, and a vintage UI with a “charmingly tacky” look.
The good news for multi-platform players? The rollout is staggered! Play Erangel Classic on PC from May 14th to May 28th, then on consoles from May 23rd to June 6th. During this time, the modern Erangel map will be unavailable. Keep an eye out for the May 14th patch notes for all the Erangel Classic details.
