Chinese student receives 9-month prison sentence for harassing pro-democracy activist in Boston

A former Berklee College of Music student from China was sentenced to nine months in prison for stalking and threatening someone who posted a pro-democracy flyer. Xiaolei Wu, 26, threatened violence and reported the person to China’s public security agency. The victim, a U.S. permanent resident from China, was targeted for criticizing the Chinese government. Wu was convicted of stalking and threatening communication, and was sentenced to prison and supervised release. The FBI condemned Wu’s actions, stating that threatening someone for criticizing the Chinese government is unacceptable and disturbing.
