Mumbai, April 25: The Narendra Modi-led central government has asked quick commerce companies such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and Big Basket (BB Now) to prove that they deliver in "10 minutes or less," as their advertisements claim. The development comes as the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has asked the companies to share data to check whether their median delivery time and alleged claims match.

According to a report in Moneycontrol, the CCPA has asked the quick commerce companies to share their data for delivery times across metro cities, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai. The move by the Central government is to ensure that messaging and claims by the quick commerce companies are in line and that no companies are misleading customers. CCPA Asks FSSAI to Probe Claim of Nestle Adding Sugar to Baby Products.

A senior government official said that the companies have been asked to share their median delivery times across major cities. He also said that the quick commerce companies do not have to make any changes but warned that they might have to alter their messaging if they fail to justify their claims.

According to the report, if the delivery companies fail to match their claims, they must change their misleading ads. This means the delivery message "in 10 minutes or less" could change to "15 minutes or less." While the companies have not responded to the government's order, this development comes at a time when quick commerce is witnessing rapid growth. Advertising Body Ties Up with CCPA to Check Misleading Ads.

A few days ago, the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) announced its tie-up with CCPA to strengthen regulation around misleading ads. The CCPA has asked the ASCI to forward any advertisement that is non-compliant with the ASCI Code and could potentially violate the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
