Thumbs up for 115,000 sq ft Cheadle industrial
Stockport Council’s planning committee voted unanimously to approve the Bird Hall Lane scheme, billed as “groundbreaking” by the authority’s director of regeneration.
Network Space will develop the 115,000 sq ft Cheadle Eco Park for the council, delivering six light industrial units, from 10,000 sq to 40,000 sq ft.
Designed by AEW Architects, the scheme would be built on a seven-acre site close to Junction 2 of the M60.
Paul Richards, director of development and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “We can now take forward this exciting opportunity to create a groundbreaking, sustainable new employment zone, which will not only have a positive impact on the environment, but will also mean more jobs, which will be a huge boost the local economy.
“We look forward to working alongside NSD to progress plans and demonstrate our commitment in tackling climate change alongside our CAN – Climate Action Now – work.”
The council and NSD are targeting a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ or ‘excellent’ certificate for Cheadle Eco Park, which is supported by £4.4m of Stockport’s £13m Town Fund award.
Catherine Chilvers, development director at Network Space Developments, said the scheme would be an “environmentally exemplar development”
“Alongside the use of air source heat pumps and solar PVs, the design will help to minimise occupier energy demand and usage.
“We are actively exploring the use of structural timber frames and we look forward to shortly commencing the detailed design process.”
Spawforths is advising on planning and Wilde Consultants is providing structural, civil and highway engineering services. Tyler Grange is advising on landscape and ecology and Kaizen Consulting is advising on M&E.
CBRE and B8 have been appointed to market the development.
