JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State dropped a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests on Friday to Alabama State, falling 14-10 in the opener and 4-3 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Jackson State pounded out 12 hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome Alabama State.
Mari Stephens led a contingent of five players with a pair of hits each in the loss including
Ka'Liyah Gipson,
Julie Lopez,
Gabrielle Willis, and
Samiyyah Huckabee.
Victoria Salazar (14-9) suffered the loss working 4.0 innings allowing seven runs (one earned) on nine hits.
In the nightcap, Gipson and Willis led a six-hit attack in the loss with a pair of hits each while
Sofia Gonzalez (4-6) suffered the loss working 7.0 innings and allowing four runs (three earned).
How It Happened (Game 1)
- (T1) Kindall DeRamus doubled home the game's first run, Alabama State 1-0.
- (B1) Jace Jackson doubled to left to score Ka'Liyah Gipson, 1-1.
- (T2) Charity Bibbs drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give Alabama State the lead, Alabama State 2-1.
- (T3) Brooke Ramsey reached on an error allowing a run to score before Alana Scott drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and the Hornets added two more runs in the inning with an RBI groundout and single, Alabama State, 6-1.
- (B3) Mari Stephens scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and Gipson scored on a passed ball, Alabama State 6-3.
- (T4) Jaeda Gardner drove in a run with an RBI groundout followed by a single from DeRamus before an error and fielder's choice led to a pair of runs, Alabama State 12-3.
- (B5) Julie Lopez doubled home a run before two more came around on an error followed by a Gabrielle Willis RBI single, Alabama State 12-7.
- (T6) Scott doubled to left and Jasmine Rogers doubled home another run, Alabama State 14-7.
- (B6) Stephens singled allowing Samiyyah Huckabee to score before Jackson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Alabama State 14-9.
- (B7) Huckabee drove in a run with an RBI single, Alabama State 14-10.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- (T3) Gardner drove in the first run on an RBI groundout, Alabama State 1-0.
- (B4) Willis singled to right to drive in a pair of runs for the lead before Lopez drove in Willis with a double, Jackson State 3-1.
- (T5) Kendall Smiley singled to left before Scott reached on an error and Ramsey stole home, Alabama State 4-3.
