Man who fatally shot himself after barricading inside North Andover home identified

Authorities on Friday identified a man who allegedly shot and killed himself after barricading himself inside a home and shooting at police officers Wednesday night in North Andover.

The man was identified as Sean Deadder, 36, of North Andover, Sharyn Lubas, a spokesperson for the Essex district attorney’s office, said in an email.

North Andover police responded about 9:50 p.m. to a call from residents on Waverly Road reporting that a family member was armed and “experiencing a mental health episode,” the Globe reported. The man allegedly fired at responding officers and injured one when he struck a police cruiser, which resulted in “metal shards striking him in the head,” police said.

The officer was treated at Lawrence General Hospital and released, the Globe reported. A SWAT team was called in, and residents in the area were told to shelter in place.

Deadder allegedly refused commands to leave the home and fired rounds out the front door and rear windows of the home, the Globe reported. Several hours later, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.
