New Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is wasting little time getting to know his teammates.
As we mentioned in Bullets, QB1 was quick to link up with third-round offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie and shoot him a text message shortly after Chicago used pick No. 75 in the 2024 NFL Draft to bolster its offensive line. Less than 24 hours later, Caleb was at it again. This time, dropping a line to fourth-round punter Tory Taylor.
Leave it to Chicago’s new quarterback to hit the punter with a laugh-out-loud funny kind of zinger to welcome him to the Bears family:

Tory Taylor’s value as a punter should help Caleb Williams shine
Tory Taylor was notorious for flipping the fields at Iowa. So while I imagine Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus wanting a defensive player with that pick, I feel as if even he would appreciate what Taylor brings to the table.
Plus, we can’t overlook the value of a punter holding extra points for all the touchdowns that Caleb Williams and friends would be scoring while having my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. But it’s not like I’m wrong. The way I see it: A punter is a weapon. Hear me out. If offensive linemen can be weapons, then the same can be said about punters. And I’ll hear nothing to the contrary.
If anything, Tory Taylor could use the rest. Taylor was an All-American at Iowa who was the Hawkeyes’ best offensive weapon. Pinning opponents deep and letting the defense cook was a formula for success at Iowa. That won’t work in the pros (trust us, the Bears have spent decades trying to do it and with minimal success). But after adding Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, D’Andre Swift, and Gerald Everett to D.J. Moore and Cole Kmet, the Bears have some firepower that will take some of the burden off Taylor’s leg.
