Severe devastation strikes Nebraska and Iowa as tornadoes and storms wreak havoc overnight

A preliminary 79 tornadoes were reported across six states on Friday, with most occurring in Nebraska and Iowa. Omaha, Nebraska, Mayor Jean Stothert confirmed on Saturday that there were no reported deaths after a destructive tornado hit the suburbs, causing damage to hundreds of homes. Police and firefighters conducted search and rescue operations, including going door-to-door in affected areas. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a disaster emergency for Pottawattamie County after parts of Minden were completely flattened by the tornado. Severe weather is expected to continue, with millions of people in the path of potential tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds.
