Rangers price for James Tavernier revealed as ‘huge’ offer readied – sources

Rangers value captain James Tavernier at around the £5million mark, sources have told Football Insider.

The Scottish Premiership giants are said to be ready to accept an offer of around that sum for the 32-year-old full-back.

Saudi side Al-Ettifaq – managed by Tavernier’s former Gers boss Steven Gerrard – have held a long-term interest in the Rangers skipper, who still has two years left on his contract at Ibrox.

Football Insider revealed on 20 March that Rangers could be forced to sell the veteran right-back if an offer too good to refuse arrives.

The football revolution in Saudi Arabia has already seen some of the game’s biggest stars leave Europe for the Saudi Pro League because of lucrative sums that can be offered by the PiF-owned clubs.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Al-Ettifaq are prepared to offer a “huge” contract to Tavernier, with head coach Gerrard keen to reunite with the Englishman.

James Tavernier valued at £5m as Rangers brace for approach

Gerrard and Mark Allen – the two key figures driving the deal for Tavernier – both have history with Tavernier.

The former Liverpool midfielder made him Rangers captain in July 2018 and he has since gone on to become a much-revered figure in the blue half of Glasgow during his nine-year spell at the club.

It is believed that Tavernier would have no issue staying at his current home, but a lucrative offer from Saudi would likely be too good to refuse for the player.

In the Scottish Premiership this season, the Bradford-born full-back has scored 17 times and grabbed eight assists in 33 appearances.

He still has the opportunity to win his second league title but will have to lead the charge against arch-rivals Celtic, who are three points clear at the top with four games to play.
