NCAA Tournament Bound! Alabama Men’s Tennis will Face Charlotte in Opening Round

The Crimson Tide will make its 21st appearance at the national team tournament and fifth appearance under George Husack

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The No. 21 Alabama men's tennis team will face Charlotte in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the NCAA revealed Monday. The Tide (17-12) and Niners (19-7) will compete Friday at noon CT in Durham, N.C.

Alabama will make its 21st overall appearance in the team competition after receiving its fifth berth under the leadership of head coach George Husack. The winner of Friday's match will advance to the tournament's second round to face the winner of Duke and UNC Asheville.

Alabama in the NCAA Tournament

  • The Crimson Tide will make its 21st appearance at the NCAA Tournament and fifth under head coach George Husack
  • Alabama last received a berth to the Big Dance in 2021
  • Husack has also coached the Tide to NCAA Tournament berths in 2013, 2018 and 2019
    • There was no NCAA Tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • The Crimson Tide made its first trip to the NCAA Championships in 1989
  • Alabama earned it first win at the NCAA Championships in 1997, downing Southern Miss, 4-2

  • Alabama has held a top-30 national ranking for 12 straight weeks, which includes ranking in the top 25 in 11 of those polls  
  • The Tide is currently ranked 21st nationally in the latest ITA poll
  • UA put together a strong season resume, capturing 17 victories and an ITA National Indoor Championship berth
  • The Tide advanced to the national indoor tournament after winning its ITA Kickoff Weekend regional site for the first time since 2010  
  • Included in the 17 dual match victories are wins over then-No. 5 Southern California (2/18), then-No. 10 Kentucky (1/27), then-No. 11 Texas A&M (4/14) and then-No. 25 Florida (3/17)
  • UA earned the sixth seed in the SEC Tournament, its highest seeding since the Tide earned a fifth seed in 2009
