Confrontations between pro-Palestinian protesters and police are continuing on campuses across the United States, a day after New York police breached a Columbia University building occupied by demonstrators and arrested about 300 people at Columbia and the City College of New York. Police arrested 15 protesters at Fordham University and 34 at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In Los Angeles, UCLA’s chancellor denounced “instigators” whom he blamed for violence that broke out overnight Tuesday between pro-Palestinian demonstrators and counterprotesters who tried to dismantle their camp.

UCLA canceled all Wednesday classes “due to the distress caused by the violence that took place” on campus. University of California system president Michael Drake said he said he had ordered an independent external review of “UCLA’s planning and actions, and the effectiveness of the mutual aid response.”
Police at the University of Wisconsin said some officers were injured Wednesday while arresting protesters and clearing tents off campus. Social media images showed officers with shields move through a crowd and load dismantled tents into trailers.
The University of Vermont will disclose a list of its investments this week, school spokesman Adam White told The Washington Post. The move comes as pro-Palestinian protesters have called for the university to divest from businesses with ties to Israel.
So far, more than 1,700 people have been arrested on campuses nationwide, according to a count kept by The Washington Post.
