West Ham £15m bid for Jacob Greaves likely to be accepted – sources

Hull City have slapped a £15million price tag West Ham target Jacob Greaves, sources have told Football Insider

The Hammers have already opened preliminary talks over a potential deal for the 23-year-old going into this summer.

West Ham are prioritising the signing of a home-grown centre-back ahead of the transfer window reopening, and believe the Hull-born defender fits the bill.

Greaves is represented by the same agency as West Ham midfield duo James Ward-Prowse and Kalvin Phillips.

He has a contract that runs until 2026 and it is believed to include the option of a further year.

Football Insider revealed last month the Tigers could be powerless to prevent him from leaving this summer if they don’t achieve promotion to the Premier League this season, with Liam Rosenior’s side currently sitting in seventh place.

West Ham for Jacob Greaves to improve defensive options

West Ham will be keen to improve their defensive options after conceding 65 goals during this campaign – the fourth-most of any top-flight side.

Greaves could potentially offer value for money and help the club reach the league’s quota for the number of home-grown players they must have in their squad.

The links to the centre-back’s agency could also offer the Hammers the upper hand over some of the other interested clubs, having secured deals for Ward-Prowse and Phillips over the past year.

Greaves has featured 42 times in the Championship for Hull this season and has worn the captain’s armband over the past four games, clearly displaying his leadership qualities.

London Stadium chiefs have no doubt been impressed with some of his stats in this campaign, having recorded an 89 per cent pass accuracy and winning 68 per cent of his duels.

The defender has shown he could be worth a punt for a Premier League side, with the Hammers now opening up talks over a potential move.
