Screenwriter and Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight gives a progress update on the Star Wars New Jedi Order movie he’s writing. That’s not the name of the film, that’s the name of the new era it is set in, but since we have no title it’s good enough. You have also come across me referring to this as the Rey Sequel or the Obaid-Chinoy Star Wars movie.
Essentially this movie is supposed to start filming soon, like maybe by the end of this year. However, Lucasfilm only last year decided to go a different way with this story, first devised by Damon Lindelof. Knight was brought in to write a new draft and as far as we know, he isn’t finished. Last we heard lead actor Daisy Ridley hadn’t yet read the script but was hoping too relatively soon. Now, speaking with NME about all his projects Knight gives us a progress update on the script for his Star Wars film.
He wasn’t giving away too much as you’d imagine here. 
“I can tell you I’m doing it! It’s going well, yes. But yes, I am getting [into] that universe and it’s a wonderful universe. I love it. And it’s good people. Again, when you get to that level, you find that the people who are there are there for a reason.”

So he’s enjoying working on a Star Wars film. Yet, we don’t really have any idea how close we are to getting a completed draft. There is then the possibility that Lucasfilm decide Knight’s draft isn’t the one they wish to shoot? Not saying that will happen, but I assume it’s possible. Until we do get a completed draft that Lucasfilm say go on, I think any rumored production start dates will just be tentative. However, let’s face it, I’d much rather have many delays and make sure this is a good movie that can generate sequels.
At least, that’s all we can hope for.
