Jackson State hits road for three-game series at MVSU

JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State hits the road for a three-game series against Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action this weekend with just three conference series remaining.
 
Jackson State (27-16, 10-11 SWAC) finds itself in fourth currently in the East Division with nine conference games remaining. The Tigers are just two games back of Alabama State for third and four games back of Bethune-Cookman in second, however, they are just four games ahead of Alabama A&M for the fourth spot.
 
The series is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday in Itta Bena (Miss.), followed by a 6 p.m. Saturday start, and a 1 p.m. Sunday start.
 
The two teams have met six times this season with just three of those counting as conference games, and Jackson State has won five of the six games. The Tigers swept the conference series played earlier this season in Jackson.

The Tigers are led by Joseph Eichelberger at the plate, one of six players hitting over .300 for the season, hitting .389 with 61 total hits including 12 extra-base hits. He also scored 41 runs and knocked in another 44, while Jordan McCladdie is hitting .343 with 60 total hits including 20­ extra-base hits. He has also stolen a team-high 26 bases.
 
Robert Tate Jr. (.343), Rodney Hibler Jr. (.342), Myles White (.325), and Lenny Montesano (.321) are all over .300 with Hibler adding 25 stolen bases and Montesano seven home runs.
 
On the mound, Garrett VanDeventer (5-4, 5.88 ERA) leads the team in wins, while Isaiah Williams (4-3, 4.92 ERA) leads the team in strikeouts. Meanwhile, Christian Womble (3-2, 4.27 ERA) has totaled a team-high five saves, while CJ Lewis (3-0, 2.96 ERA) has recorded a pair of saves
