According to the latest Barside Buzz The Mandalorian and Grogu may start filming as early as this month. previously we knew that June was the reported start date for filming. This was rumored by both leakers and production outlets. We also had Mandalorian actor/stunt performer Brendan Wayne saying he thought it was around mid-June. However, now leaker site MSW has claimed to have heard some filming will take place in May.

“I talked to two different cats, both believe that filming is actually going on in May for The Mandalorian and Grogu. In May there will be filming done. I’m not saying it’s May 1st, I’m not saying it’s May 31st, but it’s somewhere in there that things will be filmed for that specific movie.”

The outlets (Bespin Bulletin and MSW on this video) go on to speculate that perhaps Wayne’s mid-June comments were tentative. They suggest if things have gone well in pre-production that it may kick off early. In my experience that’s not how movies normally work. I would guess that perhaps some preliminary work is beginning in May, but none of the actors will be there for a few more weeks. That is very normal for a movie production with so much VFX and locations to shoot landscapes for.
It’s possible director Jon Favreau will post something on social media when the first day of filming happens. However, Star Wars projects have not been doing anything like this recently. Therefore it’s possible filming will be ongoing with no official word from Lucasfilm. I guess we will find out more in the coming weeks. Either way, it won’t be long before filming begins on The Mandalorian and Grogu.
