Spartan Student-Athletes Post Highest Cumulative GPA in Department History

EAST LANSING, Mich. – In an academic year that celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Clara Bell Smith Student-Athlete Academic Center, Michigan State student-athletes turned in a record-breaking spring semester in the classroom, posting the highest cumulative GPA in athletic department history (3.3744).

In addition, all teams posted a 3.0 cumulative GPA, marking another first for the athletic department.

"The historic academic achievements of our student-athletes are truly remarkable," said Michigan State Vice President and Director of Athletics Alan Haller. "The demonstrated across-the-board success of every program posting a 3.0 cumulative GPA is a tribute to the students' hard work, as well as the dedicated academic support staff. The record-setting numbers are certainly a fitting end to the Smith Center's 25th anniversary year."

The 3.3744 all-department cumulative GPA also marks the 24th consecutive semester over a 3.0. Spartan student-athletes posted a spring semester GPA of 3.3453, the fourth-highest semester GPA in department history and the 23rd consecutive semester over a 3.0.

Five programs posted their highest cumulative GPA in program history, including field hockey, football, men's soccer, rowing and women's cross country. Football, ice hockey, men's soccer and rowing also posted their highest semester GPA in program history.

Individually, 503 students finished spring 2024 with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. For the semester, 108 students earned a perfect 4.0 GPA among 483 students who earned a 3.0 or higher GPA for the term.
