EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team fell 12-8 in a back-and-forth affair at Michigan State on Saturday afternoon (May 4) at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field.

Michigan (24-23, 10-7 Big Ten) was paced by home runs from four different Wolverines -- Stephen Hrustich, Will Rogers, Jonathan Kim and Collin Priest. Rogers and Kim were joined by Mack Timbrook in the two-hit club. Sachem Ramos faced two batters before being relieved by Dylan Vigue, who tossed 5.1 innings.

Michigan State (21-22, 9-8 Big Ten) jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs -- both charged to Ramos -- on two walks and two hits. U-M cut the lead in half in the top of the second, scoring a run on a single from Mack Timbrook that pushed home Joe Longo. The Spartans got the run back in the home half of the frame with a solo home run.

Hrustich tied the game with one swing of the bat in the top of the third, hammering a 2-2 pitch over the center-field wall and scoring Voit to knot the game at three. MSU took the lead right back after a leadoff walk, two singles and a sacrifice fly for a 4-3 advantage. MSU added a three spot in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead.

With two outs in the fifth, Priest homered to right field to cut the MSU lead to 7-4. The Wolverines got a one-out double from Timbrook for their first baserunner in the sixth. After a challenged interference call, Rogers pinch hit with two outs and took a ball deep to right field to bring U-M to within one, 7-6. MSU again responded, scoring a run to increase its lead to 8-6 after six innings.

Both teams went scoreless in the seventh before U-M tied the game up in the eighth. Rogers hit a one-out single to bring up the tying run. Kim homered to right-center, knotting the game at eight. Once again, Michigan State took the lead in the bottom of the frame, this time on a three-run and solo homer.

The Wolverines will play the series finale against Michigan State on Sunday (May 5) at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on B1G+.
