NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils announced today (May 6) that they have signed University of Michigan ice hockey sophomore defenseman Seamus Casey to a three-year entry-level contract.

A first-team All-American, Casey finished third in the nation among defensemen in scoring. He tallied seven goals and added 38 assists, the third most assists in the country, to average 1.13 points per game. His 38 assists tied the Michigan program record for helpers by a sophomore defenseman, matching Tom Polonic (1963-64) and Luke Hughes (2022-23). A native of Fort Myers, Fla., Casey had points in 28 of 40 games this season and had 12 multiple-point games highlighted by a four-assist game against Notre Dame in March. He was named first-team All-Big Ten, was a finalist for the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and was named to both the Big Ten All-Tournament and NCAA All-Regional teams.

During his rookie campaign, he was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, to the College Hockey News All-Rookie Team and was on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. He took the Wolverines to back-to-back Frozen Fours and won the Big Ten Tournament championship in 2023.

Casey finishes his collegiate career with 74 points on 15 goals and 59 assists in 77 games. He tallied six power-play goals, one game-winning goal, blocked 71 shots and finished a +20.
