Yermish Paces Wolverines to 10th on Day 1 of NCAA Auburn Regional

AUBURN, Ala. -- Led by a 76 from freshman Sidney Yermish, the 36th-ranked University of Michigan women's golf team opened its NCAA postseason with a 311 team tally today (Monday, May 6) to position the Wolverines 10th after the first 18 holes of the Auburn Regional from the Auburn University Club.
With two rounds remaining, the Wolverines want to use a top-five finish to advance to the NCAA Finals. After the first day, U-M is 13 shots back of the top five. For the second round, U-M will be paired with Kennesaw State (317) and Albany (320) off the 10th tee starting at 8:55 a.m. CT.
Beginning its 17th NCAA postseason appearance and fifth-straight regional bid, U-M began its day off the 10th tee as senior Monet Chun etched eight pars and a bogey to make the turn at one-over. Fifth-year senior Hailey Borja and sophomores Lauren Sung and Mara Janess followed a stroke behind at two-over.
Yermish used a pair of birdies to erase two bogeys and closed the final nine holes even. With an opening 76, he paced the Wolverines and is tied for 26th. Borja added two birdies on the front nine and closed a shot behind Yermish at 77, putting her tied for 34th.
