ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Four former members of the University of Michigan ice hockey team have been selected to their nation's rosters for the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championships.

Owen Power will compete for Canada, while Luke Hughes, Zach Werenski and Gavin Brindley will play for the United States. Dylan Larkin, who was thought to be captain of the USA team will be unable to compete due to injury and Adam Fantilli has returned home.

Power looks to repeat as a gold medalist, having won in 2021. Werenski was on Team USA in 2019 and Hughes in 2022. THis is Brindley's first time being named to the World team and is coming off of a gold-medal win from World Juniors in January.

The World Championship will be held May 10-26 in Ostrava and Prague, Czechia. The 16 teams, split into Groups A and B, will play a round-robin format in the preliminary round with the top four teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. Canada will be in Group A that will compete in Prague, while USA will be in Group B that will play in Ostrava.

USA will first face Sweden on May 10 at 2:20 p.m. ET, while Canada will take on Great Britain on May 11 at 6:20 a.m. ET.

Michigan has had a player in the Worlds every year since 2009 and has had a total of 49 players play in the World Championship (39 for USA, nine for Canada, one for Austria). Wolverines have brought home 18 medals -- including five gold, three silver and 10 bronze.
