Some of the biggest names in high school football recruiting in the region converged at the Under Armour Next camp series stop in New Jersey this past weekend and it included one of the most coveted members in the WPIAL class of 2027.

Aliquippa’s Larry Moon III performed at the camp on May 5 and certainly left those who attended impressed.

Amongst the prospects that competed at the camp, Moon III was selected as the defensive back MVP.

“It was truly an honor and I’m glad the coaches recognized my abilities,” Moon III told Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Not only did Moon III come away with the defensive back honors, he was also the youngest player in attendance to get an award.

“I trusted in my technique and the coaching my coaches were giving to me and was the best DB at the camp,” Moon III said.

Other notable names that received awards included, five-star LSU quarterback commit Bryce Underwood (MI), four-star offensive lineman Tyler Merrill (PA), four-star defensive lineman Adam Shovlin (PA), four-star defensive lineman Jermain Kinsler (NJ) and Penn State wide receiver commit Lyrick Samuel.

Moon III was grateful for the opportunity to return to the camp after participating last year as a rising freshman.

“I was honored to be able to be back at the camp and be coached by all the coaches from UA and knowing that I will be going up against the best in the region,” he said.

At the camp, Moon III had the chance to go up against top-tier talent as he continues his busy offseason, which includes the Aliquippa showcase on May 9 at Heinz Field.

“It feels good competing against the best because it only gets me sharper,” he said.

The rising sophomore corner back has a notable list of offers that includes Pitt, Penn State, USC, Miami West Virginia, Syracuse, Tennessee and more.
