‘In A Violent Nature’ Is So Gory It Made A Viewer Throw Up: Footage From Screening Reveals Audience’s Horrified Reaction To Kill Scene

Finally, the killer gets to share his side of the story. In A Violent Nature, the highly anticipated slasher film from director Chris Nash, recently screened at the Chicago Critics Film Fest, and the audience’s reactions bode well for the bloody flick’s gore factor.

Through the eyes of the murderer himself, In A Violent Nature tells the story of Johnny, a vengeful spirit whose body gets resurrected when a group of vacationing teens steals a locket from a tower in the woods. Hellbent on getting it back, Johnny slaughters the teens — and whoever gets in his way — one by one.

A clip from the screening has begun circulating on social media, reportedly showing the CCFF audience’s overwhelmingly grossed-out reactions to a kill from the movie. The audience can be heard groaning as squelching sounds play from the movie, before later erupting into laughter and applause.

But pop culture news accounts Film Updates reports, “An audience member also vomited during the screening.”

Though Film Updates tweet served as a warning to any squeamish viewers, other horror fans who attended the CCFF screening at the Music Box Theatre had overwhelmingly positive reactions that verify just how “intense” the film really is.

One X user who said In A Violent Nature was one of their “most anticipated horror films this year” wrote, “One kill sequence was so drawn out and intense that THREE separate people in the row in front of me got up and left the theater. You ABSOLUTELY MUST see this with a crowd.”

They also likened the protagonist to Jason Vorhees. “Seamlessly shifts between calm grounded realism & bursts of sudden stylization/ shockingly brutal violence that are horrifying and darkly humorous in equal measure,” they wrote.

It seems like those who have seen the slasher film know exactly which kill this was. One critic reacting to the clip from Film Updates responded, “That kill. I couldn’t stop myself from saying no no no no at Sundance.”

Another user wrote, “If you heard rapturous applause coming from @musicboxtheatre tonight, that’s the sound of people responding to the year’s gnarliest on-screen kill, courtesy of IN A VIOLENT NATURE, courtesy of @IFCFilms.”

In A Violent Nature will have a limited theater premiere on May 31.
