Peacock Confirms New ‘The Office’ Series Is A Go — And Will Feature A Ragtag Group Of Midwestern Newspaper Reporters 

Fans of The Office are about to be happier than Michael Scott on Toby Flenderson’s last day of work at Dunder Mifflin, because the beloved sitcom is officially getting a second life at Peacock.

An Office-inspired show is headed to the streamer, according to a press release shared with DECIDER. The new series is not a spinoff of The Office or a reboot.

As such, it seems unlikely we’ll see anymore unhinged antics from Michael (Steve Carell), Dwight (Rainn Wilson) or the rest of the Scranton crew. Instead, Peacock is starting over.

“The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters,” the logline for the untitled project reads, per the release.

When we last reported on the new Office series, it was to share news that Domhnall Gleeson and The White Lotus‘s Sabrina Impacciatore were reportedly cast in the show. While such casting rumors have yet to be officially confirmed, Variety reports production on the show is slated to start this summer.

While the new Office iteration will feature fresh stars, the show will have the same roots. The Office U.S. creator Greg Daniels is co-creating the Peacock series with Nathan for You‘s Michael Koman, and the duo will executive produce the show with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the team behind the original British Office. The new series will also be executive produced by Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas.

It sounds like Peacock’s project is already well underway. Deadline reports that Daniels has tapped a “small group” of “trusted writers” who have already written “multiple episodes” for Season 1.

The outlet also shared that “casting continues with a focus on the office staff and potentially one more series lead.”
