ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team is set to open the postseason, hosting the Big Ten Outdoor Championships from Friday through Sunday (May 10-12) at U-M Track and Field Stadium.

Notes

• Wolverines to watch this weekend include: Savannah Sutherland (400-meter hurdles), Sidney Green (400-meter hurdles), Aasia Laurencin (100-meter hurdles), Penelopea Gordon (800-meter run and 1,500-meter run), Samantha Saenz (5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run), Riley Ammenhauser (triple jump), Corinne Jemison (shot put and discus throw), Maria Deaviz (shot put), Emma Yungeberg (javelin throw).

• U-M is the defending Big Ten Outdoor champion, claiming the title in 2023 for the first time since sharing crown with Minnesota in 2016.

• The team claimed five event titles in addition to the team title, with Ziyah Holman winning the 400-meter dash title (50.90 seconds), Laurencin winning the 100-meter hurdles title (12.85), Sutherland winning the 400-meter hurdles title (55.75), Jemison winning the discus title (58.08m/190 feet, 6 inches), and Aurora Rynda winning the 800-meter run title (2:05.95).

• Jemison set the program standard for both the discus and the shot put in the championship before besting her discus throw mark earlier this season (58.19m/190-11).

• On day one of last year's championships, U-M sat in third place after claiming two medals in the 10,000-meter run (Ericka VanderLende, second - 34:44.63; Saenz, third - 34:49.52) and a podium finish from Yungeberg in the javelin throw (seventh, 47.11m/154-6).

Kayla Windemuller scored eight points for the Maize and Blue on day two after a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:02.48), while Theresa Mayanja's fifth-place finish in the heptathlon (5,194 points) earned the team four points.

• Sitting in second place heading into the final day of the championship, the Wolverines pulled into first place after scoring points in 16 events and taking home five event titles. U-M scored 139 total points, with Ohio State (123) and Nebraska (112) round out the top-three.
